My original area of study was Architecture, were I thought I was going to be happy. However I began to feel restricted, there was more to creating, than just buildings, which is when I discovered Sculpture. I dove in head first with a new found passion. I soon realized that most of my pieces were architectural constructions, studying more formal issues like line, space and form. I had moved away from the organic and free flowing forms that had first drawn me to sculpture and hence the painted nude idea was born.
What form is a better example of fluidity and beauty than the human body? The idea of juxtaposing my clean and straight forward style onto the body with its subtle imperfections and flowing curves seemed like the perfect way for me to explore new avenues. By putting these paintings onto the body I hoped to break up the lines and allow the shapes to fall off into the shadows. Now softer lines and more sensuous shapes are created from those that were so cold and stiff before. |
