Opening explores the unique social and intellectual vernacular of art openings. To capture the experience from the perspective of gallery goers, Cote and Blatter juxtapose and recompose responses collected via street interviews to weave a fabric of sight and sound that both deconstructs and reconstructs the gallery experience. Missing from the installation are the things one would expect to see at a gallery opening; no paintings, no sculpture, no television monitors. Instead, the gallery itself is on display and the viewer is led through the space by way of visual and audible cues |
